Using App Store in FieldX

FieldX Store Plugin is like an Enterprise or Internal App Store that allows Administrator to curate the list of Apps which the device users can use to download apps from. The FieldX Store plugin can be used on the devices where there is no Play Store or any other off-the-shelf mechanism to get the Apps.

By default the FieldX Store app is not preinstalled on the devices. This allows customers to selectively identify the devices or groups where they want to push the Store app.

Push the Store app to Devices

  1. Navigate to the "Downloads" section in the Web Portal
  2. Go to the "Plugin Apps" section and click on the copy icon next to "App Store" to copy the download link for the Store app
  3. Next, go to "Push Apps" page and click on "Add" button to add new app to be pushed through FieldX platform
  4. Paste the link from Clipboard (Ctrl + V) in the text box provided
  5. Once all the details are pre populated, select the Groups you want to install the Store app to. 
  6. Click on the Submit button to save the details
  7. Next, select the Store app again and click on "Enable" button to make sure the app is enabled to Install on the selected devices. A green dot will appear if the app is enabled.
Based on the above steps, the Store app will be now automatically installed on the devices and available for the user. 


Add Apps in Store

The Store pushed on the devices is still empty. It doesn't have any listing to display. We will next add the Apps to be displayed in Store.
Before you start the process, please upload the APK files on a Web Hosting provider (like GoDaddy or Amazon S3).
  1. Go to "App Store" page from the Side menu on the left
  2. Click on "Add" button to create new entry in the Store app
  3. Paste the APK link to pre populate the app details
  4. Select the Category in which you wish to show this app on the Store. By default there are 20 categories and a Home category. One app can be part of multiple categories
  5. Next, select the groups of devices where the Store app will load this entry
  6. Press Save button to submit the store entry.
  7. When the user opens Store app, the entry will now be visible and the end user of the device can download the app if they want to.

Using Groups with App Store makes the platform very flexible for our customers to push different apps to different set of devices in different regions or zones.
