Grouping your Devices

Grouping your Devices

A Group is a logical classification of managed devices. It provides a method of organising the devices and streamlines the process of associating policies, pushing applications and executing remote actions or applying other configurations from the portal.

You can create custom groups to classify the device by Department, Branch, Type of use, Hardware Characteristics of a device, and any other logical means that can help in managing devices easier. Keeping devices into groups enables administrators to efficiently manage the devices at scale.

Groups and Zones are two different features. Groups allow Administrators to manage devices, while Zones are mainly for putting devices in different buckets

Some use cases for the Groups
  1. Selectively Push Apps to the group of devices.
  2. Selectively apply Restrictions only to a group of devices
  3. Selectively push OTA Firmware updates to a group of devices

Grouping Devices

There are various ways to add devices to a group:

  • Manual addition
  • Bulk addition
  • Automatic grouping

Pro tips on using Groups
  1. Groups are for Technical purposes. Keep group names based on device model, make, manufacturer
  2. Use Auto Grouping rules for automatically adding devices to a group, which in turn will trigger a work flow for pushing apps and applying restrictions
  3. Deleting devices from group will NOT remove any restrictions or apps on the devices
